Tires from these manufacturers offer a very good price-to-quality ratio, allowing you to purchase a safe and well-balanced tire at reasonable prices. Moving one shelf higher, we offer proven and customer-favorite brands like Kormoran, Laufenn, Marshal, and Lassa, which are produced by various premium brand groups. In the Premium segment, we offer a wide range of tires from top manufacturers at excellent prices. Starting with Hankook and Nokian, all the way to the highest tier - Michelin, Continental, and GoodYear. Whatever your desires or budget - our experienced salespeople will advise and consult you on the best tire choice for your needs.
Unlike winter and all-season alternatives, summer tires are engineered with a harder, high-density rubber compound. This specialized composition guarantees maximum road traction in high temperatures while significantly increasing overall wear resistance.

Summer tires – the perfect choice for warm weather

For the warm season, summer tires are the best choice as they provide handling and safety suitable for the weather conditions. Although it is not illegal to drive with winter or all-season tires in the summer, summer tires are the optimal choice recommended by experts. Summer tires ensure the best grip on both dry and wet surfaces, and they feature lower rolling resistance, which helps reduce fuel consumption and provides a quieter, more comfortable ride.

When should you use summer tires?

Remember that summer tires are legally permitted in road traffic from March 1st to December 1st. However, keep in mind that summer tires begin to show their true performance when the average air temperature is above +7°C. Usually, by March 1st, these conditions have not yet settled in Latvia, so there is no need to rush with a tire change right at the beginning of March. Evaluate the actual road and weather conditions to choose the appropriate moment for your seasonal tire change.

Likewise, you shouldn't wait until November 30th to switch from summer to winter tires. In November, under Latvia's climatic conditions, temperatures mostly drop below 0 degrees, and roads can be icy and covered with snow. The safest and most optimal time to change summer tires to winter tires is the first half or mid-October, when morning and evening temperatures fall below +10°C, ensuring that winter tires will provide a safer and more comfortable driving experience.

Minimum summer tire tread depth – determined by law

Traffic regulations stipulate that the minimum permissible tread depth for summer tires used in road traffic is 1.6 millimeters. However, you should note that the performance of such worn tires is already significantly reduced, so it is highly advisable not to wait until the last moment and to purchase a new set of summer tires in a timely manner.

What are the types of summer tire tread patterns?

Summer tires feature three different types of tread patterns:
  • Symmetrical tread – the inner and outer edges of these tires are identical, meaning they can be freely rotated and swapped around without remounting the tire from the rim. Symmetrical tread tires feature longitudinal grooves that effectively channel water away, helping to prevent hydroplaning;
  • Asymmetrical tread – as the name suggests, the inner and outer edges differ. These tires also typically have longitudinal grooves for water displacement. Tires with an asymmetrical tread tend to be sportier, with a softer rubber compound that provides better grip, though this can also slightly increase fuel consumption and road noise;
  • Directional tread – these summer tires are designed to rotate in a specific direction, which must be strictly followed. Left and right side tires cannot be swapped without remounting. A directional tread works exceptionally well for all-season tires and European-style winter tires, clearing snow effectively even at higher speeds. For summer tires, directional treads are used less frequently, mostly on commercial vehicles and SUVs.

Of course, tire performance, durability, fuel economy, and other aspects are also influenced by many other factors, such as the rubber compound and tire construction.

European Union tire label – a sticker with useful information

When buying new summer tires, you will see a label that provides information on:
  • Fuel efficiency – rated in classes from A (the highest, most economical class) to E (the lowest, least economical class). The higher the class, the lower the fuel consumption generated by the tire. The difference between classes is approximately 0.1 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers;
  • Wet grip – also rated in classes from A (highest) to E (lowest). This evaluates braking performance on wet roads; the shorter the braking distance, the higher the class awarded;
  • Noise level – indicated in classes from A (highest) to C (lowest), as well as in decibels (dB). The lower the class and the higher the decibel count, the louder the tire will be. A difference of 3 decibels effectively doubles the tire's noise level.

However, the information on this label shouldn't be your only deciding factor when choosing the best summer tires for your car and driving habits. Good summer tires should also be evaluated on their dry road performance and other factors, so it is highly recommended to read the manufacturers' descriptions and check independent tire test results.
